Verify Your Purchase

Unlock the app with your purchase email.

Enter the email address you used when buying the book and your unlock code. Both must match the original purchase — the app is licensed to one buyer.

The unlock code is tied to the purchase email. If the email does not match the original purchase record, access will not be granted. One license per buyer.

🔒

One license. Three devices. One person. Each unlock code is valid on one computer, one phone, and one tablet — for the buyer only. The code is registered to the purchase email and will fail validation on any device where a different email is entered. Shared codes are invalidated. To report misuse: support@interplexicon.com

False Cognates

The words that look right — and aren't.

False cognates are words that look identical or similar in English and Spanish but carry completely different meanings. In medical settings, getting them wrong isn't a minor error. Each Interplexicon app has a dedicated False Cognates tab with the most dangerous lookalike pairs in the field.

Embarazada
Means "pregnant" in Spanish

Questions

Frequently asked.

The Series
What is the Interplexicon series?
Interplexicon is a series of terminology reference books and companion apps for professional interpreters. Each title covers a specialist field — medical, finance, or wine — in English and Spanish, with vetted entries, critical term flags, false cognate alerts, regional variant notes, and RAE references. The series is designed to be used before and during assignments, not as a study course. You interpret. Interplexicon handles the terminology.
What titles are currently available?
The Medical Interpreter's Lexicon — 368 entries across 9 specialties: Anatomy, Pharmacology, Procedures, Emergency, Oncology, Obstetrics, Diagnostics, Informed Consent, and Drug Cross-Reference. Plus 11 false cognates and 95 critical terms. Available now at medical.interplexicon.com.

The Finance Interpreter's Lexicon — 334+ entries across 8 sectors: Accounting, Banking, Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Economics, International Trade, and False Cognates. Available now at finance.interplexicon.com.

The Wine Interpreter's Lexicon — 256+ entries across Tasting, Winemaking, Vineyard, Wine Tours, Sherry, Grapes, Regions, and Competitions. Coming soon.

New titles covering additional specialised fields are in development. Check interplexicon.com for announcements.
What does each book include?
Every entry in the series includes the English and Spanish term, a full pronunciation guide, definitions in both languages, an RAE (Real Academia Española) note, regional variants by country (Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and others), a lay-language version for patient or client communication, and — for critical entries — a detailed interpreter note explaining exactly what can go wrong and how to handle it. Each book also includes a dedicated false cognates section and quick reference tables.
How is this different from a bilingual dictionary?
A bilingual dictionary gives you equivalents. Interplexicon gives you the term, the regional variants, the false cognate risks, the RAE note, the interpreter alert, and the lay-language version all in one entry. The Medical Lexicon flags which terms are patient safety risks and explains exactly why. The Finance Lexicon includes false cognates specific to financial Spanish — terms that look identical in both languages but carry completely different meanings in a boardroom context. No standard dictionary does this.
Do I need to buy the book to use the app?
Yes. The app is the digital companion to the book. Without an unlock code — which is printed on the last page of the ebook — the app shows a limited preview of 20 entries. The full glossary (368 entries for Medical, 334+ for Finance) requires your unlock code, which you enter together with the email you used to purchase the book. One purchase unlocks the app on one computer, one phone, and one tablet.
Where can I buy the books?
The books are available on Amazon and directly from interplexicon.com as ebooks (EPUB and PDF). Your unlock code is printed on the last page of the ebook. If you purchased on Amazon or another retailer and cannot locate your code, contact support@interplexicon.com with your purchase confirmation and we will retrieve it for you.
Are the apps free to try?
Yes. Both the Medical and Finance apps load a free preview of the first 20 entries without any code. You can browse the structure, try the search, explore the tab layout, and see how entries are formatted before purchasing. To unlock all entries, enter your purchase email and unlock code from the last page of your ebook.
Install Guide
How do I install on iPhone or iPad?
1. Open the app URL in Safari — must be Safari on iOS; Chrome on iPhone does not support installation.
2. Tap the Share button (□↑) at the bottom of the screen.
3. Scroll and tap “Add to Home Screen.”
4. Tap Add in the top-right corner.

The app icon appears on your home screen and works fully offline — no internet required for the Glossary, Tables, Saved, Prep, or Practice tabs.
How do I install on Android?
1. Open the app URL in Chrome.
2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
3. Tap “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app.”
4. Confirm the installation.

The app installs like a native app and works offline once installed. An automatic install prompt may also appear at the bottom of the screen on first visit.
How do I install on Mac or Windows desktop?
1. Open the app URL in Chrome or Edge.
2. Look for the install icon (⊕) in the address bar on the right side.
3. Click it, then click Install.

The app opens as a standalone window with no browser chrome (no tabs, no address bar) and works offline. It appears in your Applications folder on Mac or Start Menu on Windows. Ideal for desk-based interpreters who want the app always one click away.
Does the app work offline?
Yes — once installed, the app caches all entries on your device. The Glossary, Conflicts, False Cognates, Critical Terms, Prep, Quick Card, Tables, Note, Saved, QR, and Practice tabs all work completely offline. The first load on a new device fetches all entries from the database (a few seconds); every visit after that is instant from cache.

The Live tab requires an internet connection for real-time speech transcription. Install before your assignment to ensure offline access on-site.
Where is my unlock code and how do I use it?
Your unlock code is printed on the last page of your ebook (EPUB or PDF). To unlock: open the app, tap the lock icon or the “Enter Access Code” prompt, and enter both the email you used when purchasing the book and your code. Both must match the original purchase. Once verified, all entries unlock on that device permanently. Enter the same code on each device you own — phone, tablet, and desktop.
Can I use my code on multiple devices?
Yes — enter the same code and purchase email on each device. The unlock is stored locally on each device. You can use it on your phone, tablet, and computer simultaneously. The code is tied to your purchase email. If you enter a different email on a second device, access will not be granted — the email must match the original purchase record on all devices.
How many devices can I use with one purchase?
One purchase is valid on one computer, one phone, and one tablet — for the buyer only. Enter your unlock code and purchase email on each device to activate. The code is tied to the email used at purchase; if a different email is entered on any device, access will not be granted. Codes may not be shared, transferred, or used on a second person's device.
Do I need to create an account or log in?
No account or login is required. The app runs entirely in your browser and stores your unlock status, saved entries, and Live Hours balance locally on each device. Your unlock code and purchase email are the only credentials you need. There is no password to remember and no profile to maintain — just the code from the last page of your ebook.
Will the app update automatically?
Yes. Because Interplexicon is a Progressive Web App (PWA) delivered through your browser, updates are applied automatically the next time you open the app with an internet connection. You will always have the latest entries, tables, and features without manually updating anything. If you notice the app behaving unexpectedly after an update, force-refresh with Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows/Android) to clear the cache and load the newest version.
Live Detection Hours
What exactly does the Live tab do?
The Live tab activates your device microphone and transcribes speech in real time. As words appear in the transcript, the app automatically detects and highlights any term that exists in the glossary. Those terms appear simultaneously in a sidebar for instant look-up without you having to stop, search, or type. Live Hours are the unit of time you spend with the microphone active — hours are consumed only while the Live tab is running.
What are the Live Hours packs and prices?
Starter — 5 hours — $9.99
For occasional use or getting started with the Live tab.

Pro — 10 hours — $14.99 ⭐ Most popular
For interpreters who use Live regularly in clinical or conference settings.

Power — 20 hours — $29.99
For high-volume interpreters and busy assignment periods.

Annual — 100 hours — $99
Full-year coverage for full-time interpreters.

Live Hours are sold separately from the book. Purchase at interplexicon.com and enter your license key in the Live tab to activate.
Where are my Live Hours stored? Can I use them on multiple devices?
Hours are stored locally on each device. If you clear your browser storage or switch to a different browser, you will need to re-enter your Live Hours license key. Keep your key safe — it is included in your purchase confirmation email.

Your license key can be redeemed on multiple devices. Reactivating on a second device does not duplicate your hours — the remaining balance is stored per-device after redemption. For questions about balance recovery contact support@interplexicon.com.
Which browsers support the Live tab?
Chrome (desktop + Android) — best accuracy, recommended
Safari (iPhone, iPad, Mac) — works well
Edge (Windows / Mac desktop) — works well
Firefox — speech recognition not supported
Internet Explorer — not supported

For best detection accuracy: use Chrome on desktop, speak clearly at a normal pace, and use a headset or quality microphone. Background noise reduces accuracy. The app matches single words and short phrases — terms like “intubation,” “EBITDA,” or “terroir” are detected even when spoken in full sentences.
What language detection modes does Live support?
The Live tab supports three detection modes:

English — optimised for English speech, surfaces Spanish equivalents in the sidebar
Spanish — optimised for Spanish speech, surfaces English equivalents
Both — bilingual detection mode for mixed-language environments or booth work

Switch between modes without stopping the microphone. The Finance and Medical apps use the same three-mode system.
My hours reset or aren't showing — what do I do?
Hours are stored in your browser's local storage. They reset if you:

• Clear your browser data or cookies
• Switch to a different browser (e.g. from Chrome to Safari)
• Use a private / incognito window
• Reinstall the app or clear its storage

To restore: re-enter your Live Hours license key in the Live tab input field. Your key is in the purchase confirmation email. If you've lost your key, contact support@interplexicon.com with your purchase email and we'll retrieve it.
How accurate is the Live term detection?
Live detection accuracy depends on audio quality and browser. In ideal conditions — Chrome on desktop, clear speech, no background noise, using a headset — detection is highly accurate for single words and short phrases. The app matches terms even when embedded in full sentences (e.g. "the patient requires intubation immediately" will flag intubation).

Factors that reduce accuracy: strong accent or very fast speech, background noise (busy ward, open office), using a device's built-in microphone in a noisy room, or using Firefox (unsupported). For best results: Chrome on desktop + headset + speak at normal conversational pace.
Can I use Live in a booth or remote interpreting setting?
Yes. The Live tab works in any setting where you can run the app on your device — including conference booths, remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI) platforms, and video remote interpreting (VRI). For booth use, connect the microphone input from your console or use a quality headset with a dedicated mic. For RSI/VRI, open the app on a second device (tablet or phone) separate from the one running your interpreting platform to avoid audio conflicts. The “Both” language detection mode works well in bilingual booth environments.
